Cussing/Profanty

Psalm 34:13 - "Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile."

James 1:26 - "If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain."

(See this verse in context: Ep. 4:17-32)
Ephesians 4:22-25

"22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. ...
Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
**29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers."

James 3:6-13
"6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:
8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.
10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?
12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.
13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom."

James 3:10 - "Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be." (See James chaper three)

1 Peter 2:1 - "Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, all evil speakings,"

1 Peter 2:21-23
"21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:"

Jesus did not cuss (guile was not found in his mouth). We should follow in his steps. Paul says, "Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ." (1 Corinthians 11:1)

1 Peter 3:8-11
"8 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:
9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:
11 Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it."

1 Peter 3:10 - "[L]et him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:"

Read Ephesians chapter five. See that chapter.

What we say reveals what is in our heart. If we are speaking bad things, then good things must not be in our heart.

In Luke Jesus says, "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh." (Luke 6:45)

"[F]or of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh." If Jesus is in our heart, then no guile should be coming out of our mouth. What comes out our mouths manifests who our father is. Either God is our father, or the devil is our father.
James 1:26 - "If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain."

Thus cussing is sin/wrong.
