Secular Music

Listening to secular music, according to what the Bible says, is a [not very good].

There is no such thing as amoral music; it is either for Jesus or against Jesus. Secular music is not for Jesus, else it would not be secular/worldly/New Age. Anything that is not for Jesus is for Satan. Ephesians 4:27 tells us, "Neither give place to the devil."

We need to do things to God's glory and for our edification in Christ, living a pleasing life for him. Paul tells us, "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10:31) Listening to such music would not be giving glory to God, et al., as is commanded. It would not be helping us.

God tells us in Ephesians chapter 4 vs 17-24

Ephesians 4:17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
Ephesians 4:18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
Ephesians 4:19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
Ephesians 4:20 But ye have not so learned Christ;
Ephesians 4:21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
Ephesians 4:22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
Ephesians 4:23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
Ephesians 4:24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

Then he tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

We are to put off our "former conversation." Our old life we lived before accepting Christ should be put off. We are to live for Christ, live a renewed and holy life. "[B]e renewed in the spirit of your mind;... put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness." (Ephesians 4:23,24). Put on the new man; we are become a new man in Christ. We must not walk as before, but as new. Not listen to secular music, but music that is edifying to God (God's music).

"8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. 9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you." (Philippians 4:8,9)

Worldy music does not put God's word in our heart; it does not help us to think on honest, pure, true things. God also tells us in Romans 12:2, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." We are not to be conformed to the world. We should not be listening to their music, listening to secular/worldly music. We are to (or should) be transformed. How, by the renewing of our mind. Listening to their music is not going to renew our mind, but keep the old things in it; hindering us from being transformed and our minds from being renewed.

God tells us (in Ephesians 5:1-7) to be fellowers of God as dear children. He tells us to walk in love, etc. He also tells us to not even speak about forincation, and the like, the things which are of the old man. Ephesians 5:6 says, "Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience." And verse 7 says, "Be not ye therefore partakers with them." In Ephesians 4:22,24 we are to put off the old man, and put on the new man. We need to put away the old things, the sin, and put on the new things, Love and Christ, et al. Quit listening to the old music we listened to before knowing Christ, but listen to that which is uplifting to Christ and is encouraging to ourselves. See Colossians 3:1-10 KJV We need to be putting our mind and heart on things above, and not on things here.

1 Peter 1:13-16:
1 Peter 1:13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
1 Peter 1:14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
1 Peter 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
1 Peter 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

Let us not fashion ourselves to the world, and let us be holy in all manner of conversation. May we think on pure and honest things. May we live a pleasing life to and for you Lord!
